Can't install more then 1 mod with ModLauncher !
« on: 22 January 2015, 15:15:45 »
Like the title say with the ModLauncher you can't install more then 1 mod for the game, my question is what is the point using the ModLauncher if you don't have support for using more then 1 mods with it ? This is like a quick testing for the created mod but not an easy support for the players to have more then one mod installed ?!
So the good old fashion way is the best to implement more then 1 mods!

Some talking in Shoutbox about this subject:

"Today at 08:20:49  xpressive_dan: Also somehow the The ModLauncher you can't enable many mods anymore, if you want to enable for ex. 2 mods, one mod will be reset then other will take the place as principal mod.... "

"Today at 12:09:06  Fajeth: dan: thats correct, you can only install one mod at a time ( this should be stated in the manual afaik) "

The launcher is for easy installing and (even more important) easy uninstalling of mods. It was designed to help users and to make multiplayer compatibility more easy.

You can not install 2 mods because they may change the same file.

To integrate 2 mods, you need to integrate one mod into the other "the old way" by hand.

Well yes it's easy for players  to install what mod they want but the problem is if they want's more then 1 mod what the point on using the modlauncer ?! Many want's more then 1 mod for the game and the modlauncher is useless in this case, so the manual way they can have more then 1 mod and make a backup for the files.

The sistem of ModLauncher is an good idea that help many player to install a mod but it don't give more posiblity for players to manage more then 1 mods in the game, but the modlauncher have posibility function of "<state>new</state>" so this could be easy to make the modlauncher compatible with 2 mods or more, because it have function of adding new lines of code in the specific files and should be in most of the cases compatible with more then 1 mods.

This way will be more easily for players to use mods!

no its not.

The only way would be to allow mods that dont have the same modded files - which is kinda pointless, because especially the db-files get changed in quite every mod.

the only file that can add/alter lines is the textfile. So, yes, you could do that for every db-file. But that would make the effort for modders like us even more huge. Do you want to add every new/changed line in db-files into your mod-launcher files? Even than, some mods still use the same scripts. How should you merge that via the modlauncher?

The modlauncher was never designed for multiple mods, only for packs.

The mod launchers of other games I own allow more than one mod to be selected for loading from a list of installed mods.

Obviously there is just as much potential for mod conflicts in those games too, but this is overcome by using a load order system which arranges the mods in priority of use.  That way if two mods affect the same files the higher priority mod in the load order takes preference.  Its not perfect of course as it means that you can select a mod that you want to use, but find it actually isn't working because another mod has higher priority over the files that are used.  But it does mean that you can have multiple mods in play simultaneously provided they don't encroach on each others turf.

I'm currently using several mods in G2R, but only one (iCheat) is invoked through the mod launcher, the rest involved getting my hands dirty fiddling with text editors etc.

The problem with that is, the guild 2 is kinda unstable regarding script integrety. some conflicts may lead to more problems than just "1 mod isnt working properly".

i'd prefer multi-modsystems too, but it's a mess to do it for guild 2.
