What is Kontor?
« on: 05 April 2011, 18:01:26 »
Hi!
Could you please tell us something about this new game of yours? What genre will it be? I'm very excited about it because I love The Guild series.

well first you should know, that kontor will NOT be the successor of The Guild 2.

"The Guild" is a trademark of Jowood AG and we are not allowed to take anything from "the guild"-games to our own new game.

Despite this, Kontor will be a complete new economy simulation game situated in the Thirty Years' War, with some RPG elements and other (for that time typical) professions, buildings and features. The game is in a very early developement stage, so we haven't a lot information to share with you yet. But maybe you should check what we already released in our newsletter.

Hello.

Is "Kontor" the new main product of runeforge games studio and will there be still developments on the guild 2?

Kind regardes,

In the news section about the first information on ProjectX it says that the games storyline will take place during 30-year war. Not medieval.

The 30 years' war was durig the Renaissance from 1618 to 1648.
The late medieval was between 1250 and 1500.

Renaissance was nearly over in the 17th century. Medieval too, but.. medieval sounds better..

Middle Ages: 476 (fall of western Roman Empire) -early 1400s.
Renaissance: 1300s-1700s
Enlightment: 1680s-1800s

As you see, these time periods can not be cleary divided and overlap. The 30 Years War (1618-1648) was fought when the Renaissance was fading and the Englightment was starting.

Kontor will use a combination of Ogre and some other engines.

From what I've heard Guild's 2 Gamebryo pretty much sucks, is it good news that Kontor uses this Ogre engine?

@Hirikan: Of course ther will be guns  :)
There will be flintlock guns and the more sophisticated (and much more expensive) wheellock guns.
But due to the enormous amount of time needed to reload, melee weapons are not outclassed.

@sabretooth074: Using the ogre gives us the freedom to have a stable base engine without the need to pay expensive licenses. I have worked with the ogre engine in the past and its a good engine (but I´m not a programmer so my opinion is not important)  ;)
