Best way for learning an another language is to consume media in the language of interest.
I learn my english by comics, tv-series, us-/en- Sites of interest (game-info etc.).
Ok, i had some basics of en in school, i dont think you've some in german ^^.
I can only suggest to (import?) dvd's/blue-rays/whatever where you can watch the movie
in german language and with english subtitle.

Maybe the Goethe-Institute is near to your residence. Its a german non-profit cultural Institute promoting the study of the german language.

ello all;

Thanks for all the replys.  I liked the Germany trip idea.  Problem is complete lack of funding.

I might give German texts, etc more thoght after I get further in to it.  At moment I am pretty much pre basics.

I'm going to look into the Goethe Institute.

Right now I'm thinking of working Duetsch Learnen to build up vocab.  I'll like somebody to check sentance attempts, occasionally help teach.

thanks all,

Jack

First question:

why on duetsch lernern's word list do some words seem two spellings in certain conjugations?

ex: Die Schule, Die Schulen?

Second:  will accept sentance requests based on the word lists from lesson 1(beginners) for practice  :)

Oh, you will have a lot of fun with German (it's "Deutsch", btw ;)), we often spell words differently for specific situations.
In this case it's easy, "Schule" is singular while "Schulen" is plural, like "School, Schools".

Hallo

As for the exercise, I'm juist going back in forth.  I'm just studying to get to reading skill.over time i expect it to sink further in.  :)

New question:  Are the indeffinte articles meant to be suffixes for plurals, but not the singular?

Bitte,
Jack

defined articles can be used for both, singulars and plurals. Undefined articles can be used for both, too. But in the plural you don't mention them, they are insivible in some way.

It's almost like in English.

unbestimmte Artikel, singular - plural:
(m.)  ein Haus - Häuser
(f.) eine Frau - Frauen
(n.) ein Ding - Dinge
                         bestimmte Artikel, singular - plural:
(m.) das Haus - die Häuser
(f.)  die Frau - die Frauen
(n.) das Ding - die Dinge
Translation:
undefined articles, singular - plural:
 a house - houses
 a woman - women
 a thing - things
                              defined articles, singular - plural:
 the house - the houses
 the woman - the women
 the thing - the things

for inflexion check:

also, I may suggest to you, using a professional website like www.babbel.com instead of a gaming-forum. Honestly ;-)

LordProtektor (should I call you Oliver  ;D

The reason for German studies here is to learn from the clever people present.  They get to be amused by my attempts to understand, and soon, my attempts to type in German.  It may not be normal, but then again, what is normal in a computer world.

Hey, looks fine but there a many faults in it... ;) don't worry, the first year I learned english I wasn't so good^^
I would be happy, if you could give us the english version of your text, that makes it easier for you for finding faults... ;)

I put the words in the correct order for helping you:

Ich gehe in eine Schule in Berlin. Wir kommen aus Spanien und lernen Deutsch zu sprechen und zu schreiben, nicht Englisch. Meine Mutter schreibt Bü(ue)cher über Wein und Italien.
( I don't understand you translation, 'cause "Buche(n)" is a tree's species^^ please tell us the english clauses, so we can help you :)) and, sorry, but I don't understand the last three sentences... I see that you learned really good vocabulary, but your grammar isn't nice :-/ and some words a (very) wrong...

I think you'll get it, but it will takes some time... but you're learning just for a few weeks and so I can say, "wow"...

Vocabulary to learn:

ein Buch - a book
Buecher/Bücher - books
Deutsch - German
in - in
wohnen - (to) live (in a house, an appartment,...; Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich, New York, L.A. D.C.,...) | Ich wohne in einem Haus in Stuttgart. - I live in a house in Stuttgart. (I hope you understand ;))
ein Brief - a letter/ a mail
Briefe - letters/ mails
Ich gehe in/auf eine Schule in Berlin - I'm going to a school in Berlin.
eine Buche - a beech (tree)

I hope I can help you with this :)
